How to Prep for the Best Bride & Groom Detail Photos

Before the photographers’ day starts, you can help them get the best photos by preparing any items you’d like photographed. This might include things like:

Hers

  • The dress

    • If you’d like photos of the dress hanging before you put it on, have it unwrapped and ready to hang. Don’t forget your personalized hanger if that’s important to you.

  • Bridesmaids dresses

    • Tags off

    • Nice hangers

  • Engagement ring (with or without all the wedding bands)

    • Cleaned and polished, preferably in a box

  • Ceremony shoes and reception shoes (if different)

  • Invitation suite (invites, save-the-dates, RSVP cards, envelopes, etc.)

    • Preferably that haven’t been sent

  • Jewelry

  • Robe

  • Bouquet

  • Veil

  • Garter

  • Perfume

  • Bridesmaids gifts

  • Letter to or from your fiancé

  • “Something borrowed” or “something blue”

  • Anything else that’s important to you!

His

  • Tux or suit jacket

    • Tags off

  • Shoes

    • Polished or buffed

  • Tie

  • Cufflinks

  • Watch

  • Cologne

  • Boutonniere

  • Groomsmen gifts

  • Letter to or from your fiancé

  • Sunglasses (if personalized or special in some way)

  • Socks (if they’re funny or cute or otherwise significant)

  • Anything else that’s important to you!

Additional Tips

  • Have your bridesmaids/groomsmen take a few minutes to hide clutter in the room you’ll be getting ready in. (e.g. put piles of clothes, purses, gift wrap, sandwich wrappers, etc. under a bed or in a closet.)

  • A good guideline is: If it doesn’t help tell the story, it probably detracts from it. I’ve worked in all kinds of conditions so I can help you decide what looks best. If it’s too chaotic in the room and we can’t tidy it up quickly, we'll make that part of the story or get creative with angles.
